QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Who is God and what is the central theme of the entire Bible in just a few sentences?
ANSWER: Your questions, although they seem simple enough, are actually difficult to answer since summaries aren't always 100% accurate because qualifiers get omitted. That said, I offer the below synopsis of who God is and the Bible's main theme for your future Bible studies. Who is God: God is a personal, all-powerful, all-knowing, omnipresent, loving spirit Being who created the material universe as something separate from Himself. God is composed of two spirit Beings at present (cf. I John 3:1-2; John 17:20-23; 10:30-39). His love for humanity is practically demonstrated directly by His willingness, as Jesus, to die painfully on the cross to erase the sins of all people (John 3:16).
Theme of the Bible: The Bible is the "Manufacturer's" instruction booklet telling human beings (the Creator's highest creation) how to live happily in this life and how to live forever in the next by revealing specifically how we should obey and have faith in Him. The Bible reveals how God is reaching down to humanity to redeem us from sin and spiritual ignorance and how we can be reconciled to our Creator, and thus have true meaning in this life by pleasing our Creator.
QUESTION: If God the Father created Jesus the Son, who created God? Where did God come from?
ANSWER: There is nothing in the scriptures that states or infers that God the Father created Jesus the Son. The scriptures state that 'the Word', who was born as Jesus, was "with God in the beginning": "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. " (John 1:1-3,14 NIV)
Paul wrote to the church in Philippi concerning the nature of Jesus:
"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped [held on to], but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness." (Philippians 2:6-7, NIV)
Jesus was God, who gave up His divinity in order to be born, live, die and be resurrected as a man and that is the power behind God’s plan of salvation for mankind. It was Jesus, in His status as God, the Son, who spoke things into existence and who dealt with the patriarchs from Adam through Isaac and then with children of Israel. It was He who wrote the ten commandments in stone with His own finger and who made the covenant at Mt. Sinai with the children of Israel.
Among the more powerful statements made by Jesus declaring Himself to be the God of the Old Testament is this one recorded in the Gospel of John:
"Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he saw it and was glad.
'You are not yet fifty years old,' the Jews said to him, 'and you have seen Abraham!'
'I tell you the truth,' Jesus answered, 'before Abraham was born, I am!'
At this, they picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds. " (John 8:56-59, NIV)
Jesus is thus making the claim that He was the one who spoke to Moses from the "burning bush".
"God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: `I AM has sent me to you.' " " (Exodus 3:14, NIV)
Why did the Jews who heard Jesus make the statement in John 8:58 pick up stones to stone him? Because He was claiming to be God and that, to the Jews, was blasphemy and the Law required a blasphemer to be stoned.
By the use of the name "I AM", God is making the statement that He is eternal – there never was a time when God did not exist and there never will be a time when He doesn't exist. In fact "time" itself is a human concept and bears no relationship to God’s existence in the spirit realm.
The concept of an eternal "being" is beyond true human comprehension. As the wise man who wrote the book of Ecclesiastes wrote:
I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. " (Ecclesiastes 3:10-11, NIV)
God IS. God WAS. God WILL BE. He was not created but is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that we see in this universe, which is a physical realm and time only exists in the physical realm – it has no meaning in terms of God and the spiritual realm.
BRIDLE & BIT MAGAZINE
I first met Traci at a World Barrel Racing show in Waco, TX. She was riding a most amazing bay mare. Traci stopped by our Animal Krackers Body Balancing Booth to have her horse evaluated. She was so vibrant and easy to chat with, we became instant friends. I continued to hear her name from folks that had her fixing and tuning up horses and about her methods. So I watched her riding in the warm up, and continued to be amazed; I had to know more.I can hardly wait to see more at the clinic this fall. She will be starting three for me.
